Spotted
Jankowski's Bunting is a critically endangered bunting species with a highly restricted range in northeastern Asia. It inhabits dry steppe and grassland habitats.
Where to spot
Historically found in northeastern China and southeastern Russia. Now extremely rare and localized, primarily in small remnant patches of grassland in Inner Mongolia, China.
How to spot
Any sighting is exceptional and should be reported. Look for it in undisturbed dry grasslands. It is a ground-dwelling species, so observe carefully for movement in low vegetation.
When to spot
Extremely difficult to observe due to its rarity and restricted range. Breeding season is generally summer.
This bunting is facing severe population decline primarily due to habitat conversion for agriculture, making it one of the most imperiled buntings.
