Where to spot
Dry woodlands and scrubland habitats in northern Colombia and northern Venezuela.
How to spot
Search in arid scrub, thorny dry forest, and open woodlands. It can be quite active and vocal, often perching conspicuously. Listen for its characteristic rattling or trilling calls.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed during early mornings when singing is most frequent.
This species was formerly considered a subspecies of the White-fringed Antwren (Formicivora grisea), but distinct vocalizations and genetic differences led to its recognition as a separate species.
