Spotted
The Guianan Gnatcatcher is a small, active songbird found in the northern Amazon basin. It exhibits typical gnatcatcher behavior, constantly moving through the mid-story and canopy in search of insects.
Where to spot
Found in humid tropical lowland forests, forest edges, and secondary growth within the Guianas and parts of northern Brazil.
How to spot
Look for a tiny, restless bird with a slender bill, flitting rapidly through the canopy or mid-story. Listen for its thin, high-pitched calls which can help pinpoint its location.
When to spot
Generally observed year-round within its resident range. Best seen during early mornings or late afternoons when actively foraging.
Like many gnatcatchers, the Guianan Gnatcatcher builds a delicate, cup-shaped nest often camouflaged with bits of lichen and spider silk, making it incredibly hard to spot.
