Known only from a small area of white-sand forest (varillal) near Iquitos in northeastern Peru.

Due to its restricted range and canopy-dwelling habits, observation requires visiting the specific white-sand forests near Iquitos. Look for small, fast-moving birds at tree-top level and listen for their fine, high-pitched notes.

Year-round resident within its highly restricted habitat. Best observed during early morning hours.
