The Grey-headed Batis is a small, distinctive bird with a grey head, black mask, and a prominent white supercilium. Males have a broad black breast band, while females have a rufous breast band.
Where to spot
Found in East and Central Africa, from Sudan to Zambia and Mozambique. Inhabits savannas, woodlands, and riverine forests.
How to spot
Look for them in the mid-story and canopy of woodlands. Identify by the grey head, black mask, and white eyebrow. Listen for their sharp, repeated 'chip-chip' calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active throughout the day.
This species often joins mixed-species foraging flocks, moving efficiently through the canopy to find insect prey alongside other small forest birds.
