Spotted
A rather plain but distinctive cotinga species found in the Atlantic Forest of southeastern Brazil. It is characterized by its dusky grey plumage, paler on the belly.
Where to spot
Humid montane forests, often near forest edges or clearings, in southeastern Brazil.
How to spot
Scan the mid-story and canopy of tall forests. Its grey plumage can make it hard to spot, but listen for its rather soft, whistled calls, which are often the best way to locate it.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Most active in the early morning when foraging for fruits.
This species is considered vulnerable due to the ongoing destruction and fragmentation of its Atlantic Forest habitat.
