Spotted
The Grey-faced Buzzard is a medium-sized migratory raptor of East Asia, known for its distinct grey head and impressive long-distance migrations. It is a versatile hunter of various small animals.
Where to spot
Breeds in Northeast Asia (e.g., Japan, China, Korea) and winters in Southeast Asia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Found in forests, woodlands, cultivated areas, and open country.
How to spot
During migration, scan the skies for large flocks. In resident areas, look for it soaring or hunting over open woodlands, or perched on prominent vantage points. Note its grey head.
When to spot
Best observed during spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) migration, especially at coastal watchpoints. Active during daylight hours in all seasons.
