The Golden Monarch is a brilliantly colored bird endemic to New Guinea and nearby islands. Males are a striking golden-yellow with contrasting black markings, making them highly conspicuous.
Where to spot
Endemic to New Guinea and some satellite islands, inhabiting lowland rainforests and forest edges.
How to spot
Look for its brilliant golden-yellow plumage, especially in males, in the mid-story and canopy of forests. It often moves in mixed-species flocks. Listen for its distinct, often chattering or whistling calls.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Active throughout the day, often more visible in the mornings when foraging.
