Where to spot
Endemic to Príncipe Island, São Tomé and Príncipe, West Africa. Inhabits lowland and montane forests.
How to spot
Search the mid-story and undergrowth of humid forests. Look for its brilliant blue plumage and restless movements as it forages. Listen for its high-pitched, buzzing calls.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed during the breeding season when pairs are more vocal and active.
This species is a good example of island endemism, having evolved unique characteristics due to its isolation on Príncipe.
