Spotted
The Mountain Honeyeater is a drab, medium-sized honeyeater found in the montane forests of New Guinea. Its plumage is generally olive-brown, allowing it to blend into the dense forest environment.
Where to spot
Montane rainforests and mossy forests at higher elevations in New Guinea.
How to spot
Scan the mid to upper canopy of montane forests. Its unobtrusive plumage makes it challenging; look for movement and listen for its calls to aid detection.
When to spot
Active during daylight hours, often more vocal in the morning.
This species is one of several honeyeaters adapted to the cooler, mossier cloud forests found at higher elevations in New Guinea.
