The Grey-throated Honeyeater is a small to medium-sized honeyeater endemic to New Guinea. It has a distinctive grey throat and a generally drab olive-green plumage, making it blend well into its forest habitat.
Where to spot
Endemic to New Guinea, found across the island in both Indonesian Papua and Papua New Guinea. It inhabits lowland and lower montane rainforests, particularly favoring mature forest.
How to spot
Identify by its plain olive-green plumage, a slightly paler belly, and most notably, its grey throat. It often forages high in the canopy, moving quickly among leaves and branches to catch insects. Listen for its quiet, unassuming calls.
When to spot
Active during the day, feeding on insects, nectar, and some fruits. It is a resident species, so it can be observed throughout the year within its forest environment.
This species is often found in the company of other honeyeaters and insectivorous birds, participating in active foraging flocks high in the forest canopy.
