Spotted
This hybrid blends the unique white head and barred body of the Emperor Goose with the white forehead and grey body of the White-fronted Goose. Its plumage can be quite striking, displaying a mix of these distinct features.
Where to spot
Primarily encountered in zoological collections, waterfowl parks, or occasionally in coastal areas of western Alaska and eastern Siberia where the two species' ranges might overlap.
How to spot
Look for a goose with a grey body and black belly bars, but with a more extensive white head and neck (like an Emperor Goose) that also features a distinct white forehead patch. The bill color and shape may also appear intermediate between the two species.
When to spot
Year-round in captive settings. In the wild, observation is opportunistic during migration or wintering periods in zones of potential overlap.

Given the Emperor Goose's arctic coastal habitat, natural hybridization with the more widespread White-fronted Goose is less common but can occur in shared breeding or wintering areas, particularly where human activity leads to species mixing.
