Where to spot
Highly localized to a few sites in humid montane forests in southwestern Ecuador.
How to spot
Its voice is critical for detection; learn its distinctive rapid trill. Focus your efforts in dense, tangled undergrowth, often near water, and exercise extreme patience.
When to spot
Active year-round. Best observed by listening for calls, particularly in the early morning.
It is considered one of the most enigmatic and poorly known tapaculos due to its tiny geographic range and cryptic nature, making sightings exceptionally rare.
