Spotted
The Dusky Lory is a unique and captivating parrot native to New Guinea. Its plumage is predominantly brown or dusky, contrasting with vibrant orange or yellow markings on its wings and belly.
Where to spot
Lowland forests and forest edges of New Guinea.
How to spot
Look for them flying rapidly across clearings or feeding in flowering trees. Their loud, harsh calls are very characteristic and help locate them.
When to spot
Year-round, active throughout the day, often in groups.
Unlike many brightly colored lorikeets, the Dusky Lory's subdued plumage helps it blend into the often shaded understory and mid-canopy of its forest habitat.
