The Dusky Lark is a terrestrial lark, characterized by its dark, mottled plumage, found in open woodlands and grasslands of south-central Africa. It is often well-camouflaged against the ground.
Where to spot
Breeds in drier woodlands and savannas of south-central Africa, and migrates to open grasslands and cultivated areas for the non-breeding season.
How to spot
Scan open ground and clearings in woodlands. Its dark plumage provides excellent camouflage. Look for subtle movements or listen for its distinctive song.
When to spot
Seasonal migrant within its range. Best observed during its presence in an area, typically during the wet season for breeding or dry season for non-breeding.
