Where to spot
Endemic to the humid, shrubby grasslands on the summit and slopes of Mount Duida in southern Venezuela, typically above 1,000 meters.
How to spot
Requires specialized expeditions to the tepui region. Look for it in the grassy and shrubby areas on the plateaus. Its long tail will be a key feature, as well as its specific vocalizations.
When to spot
Year-round resident, but access to its remote habitat is extremely challenging and requires specialized expeditions.
This finch is named after Mount Duida, one of the iconic tepuis (table-top mountains) in the Guiana Highlands, where it inhabits the unique high-altitude ecosystems, making it a highly specialized species.
