Spotted
The Dark-crowned White-eye is a distinctive species found in the mountains of Borneo. It is characterized by its dark crown and prominent eye-ring.
Where to spot
Endemic to the mountains of Borneo (Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei), primarily in Sabah, Sarawak, and Kalimantan. Inhabits montane forests, often at high elevations.
How to spot
Look for its dark, often blackish, crown contrasting with its prominent white eye-ring and olive-green body. Often found in mixed-species flocks, foraging actively in the mid-canopy. Listen for its high-pitched, twittering calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active during the day. Best observed during mornings in high-altitude forests.
Its dark crown provides a clear contrast to the white eye-ring, making it easier to distinguish from other white-eyes on Borneo.
