Spotted
The Isabelline Miner is a pale, terrestrial bird of high-altitude grasslands, characterized by its delicate 'isabelline' or fawn coloration. It is well-camouflaged against its rocky and dry environment.
Where to spot
Endemic to the high-altitude puna grasslands and barren slopes of the Andes, found primarily in southern Peru, Bolivia, and northern Chile.
How to spot
Look for it foraging on the ground in open, rocky, or sparsely vegetated areas. Its very pale plumage and terrestrial behavior are key identifying features.
When to spot
Active year-round, primarily during the day. Best observed in the calmer parts of the day, away from strong winds.
Its specific pale coloration is an adaptation to blend perfectly with the light-colored soils and sparse vegetation of the high puna.
