Spotted
The White-bellied Spinetail is a small Furnariid with striking white underparts that sharply contrast with its rufous-brown back. It inhabits dry coastal woodlands.
Where to spot
Endemic to the arid and semi-arid coastal scrub and deciduous forests of western Peru, primarily at lower elevations.
How to spot
Look for it actively foraging in dense, thorny scrub. Its contrasting white belly and rufous back are key to quick identification.
When to spot
Active during daylight hours, especially in the cooler parts of the day. It is a resident species, observable year-round.
Its strong bicoloration, with white below and rufous above, makes it one of the most distinctly marked spinetails in its family.
