The Black-tailed Earthcreeper is a Furnariid of the Patagonian steppe, identifiable by its dark tail contrasting with its overall brownish plumage. It forages on the ground for insects and other invertebrates.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Patagonian steppe and adjacent arid regions of southern Argentina and Chile.
How to spot
Look for it walking and probing on the ground in open, arid grasslands. Its black tail, often seen as it moves, is a good identifying feature. Listen for its calls.

Active year-round. Best observed during the morning or late afternoon when it is actively foraging.
