The Chinese Yellow Bunting, also known as the Yellowhammer, is a widespread and familiar bunting across Eurasia. Males have a bright yellow head and underparts with streaky brown upperparts.
Where to spot
Widespread across most of Europe and much of Asia. Inhabits open countryside, farmland edges, hedgerows, and light woodlands.
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive song. Look for them perched on prominent vantage points like bushes, wires, or fences. Males are easily identified by their bright yellow head.
When to spot
Resident year-round in much of its range. Males are very conspicuous and vocal during the breeding season (spring and summer).
