Where to spot
Breeds in northeastern China and southeastern Siberia, favoring dense scrub, forest edges, and often rocky slopes. Winters in Southeast Asia.
How to spot
Focus on dense thickets and undergrowth. Listen for its distinctive, often explosive song, and sharp calls. Patience is needed as it rarely shows itself in the open.
When to spot
Breeding season (summer) in its northern range, and during migration (spring/autumn) through East Asia. Present in wintering grounds from autumn to spring.
