The Dull-bellied Brushfinch is a small, relatively plain brushfinch found in the Andes. It has olive-brown upperparts and dull greyish underparts, with a subtle facial pattern.
Where to spot
Found in humid montane forests of the Andes in Colombia and Venezuela. Inhabits dense undergrowth and forest edges.
How to spot
Look for it foraging in dense forest undergrowth, often in mixed-species flocks. Its subtle coloration makes it blend in; listen for its quiet, often scratchy calls.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active and vocal during the breeding season, which often coincides with the local wet season.
This species is often found in the lower to mid-story of humid montane forests, where it gleans insects from foliage.
