Dabbene's Sparrow is a distinctive sparrow species found in the temperate forests of the southern Andes. It has a patterned head and reddish-brown streaking on its back.
Where to spot
Found in the temperate forests of the southern Andes, primarily in Argentina and Chile. Inhabits Nothofagus forests, bamboo thickets, and forest edges.
How to spot
Look for it foraging on or near the ground in dense forest undergrowth. Listen for its calls and song, which can help in detection in its often-dense habitat.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Breeding occurs during the austral spring and summer (October-February).
This species is often found in dense bamboo thickets within the Nothofagus forests, making it quite elusive.
