The Bushveld Pipit is an African pipit species found in the bushveld and savanna habitats of southern Africa. It is a secretive bird, often blending in with its dry, thorny environment.
Where to spot
Southern Africa, including South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Botswana. Found in dry savannas, thornveld, and open woodlands.
How to spot
Listen for its calls and song, which are often the best way to detect it. Look for it foraging on the ground in dense grass or under bushes. Its streaky plumage provides excellent camouflage.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best observed during the breeding season when males are more vocal.
