Sclater's Vireo is a subtle and localized songbird of the Neotropics, characterized by its plain olive-green plumage and a faint eye-ring. It is an active insectivore of humid montane forests.

Endemic to the highlands of southern Mexico (Chiapas) and western Guatemala. It inhabits humid montane forests.
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive, often rapid and complex, whistled song, which is often the best way to locate this visually inconspicuous bird. Scan the mid to upper canopy of montane forests.
When to spot
Active year-round in its resident tropical montane habitat. Most vocal during the breeding season. Best observed in the early mornings.
This species is named after Philip Lutley Sclater, a prominent British ornithologist, reflecting the tradition of naming species after influential naturalists.
