Spotted
The Bornean Spiderhunter is a species of spiderhunter primarily found on the island of Borneo. It is characterized by its green upperparts, grayish underparts, and long, curved bill adapted for feeding.
Where to spot
Endemic to the island of Borneo, including parts of Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei. Found in various forest habitats from lowland to montane regions.
How to spot
Look for its characteristic long, curved bill and greenish-gray plumage. It can be elusive, so listen for its high-pitched calls and watch flowering plants in the forest canopy and understory.
When to spot
Year-round, with increased activity during the blooming seasons of nectar-producing plants. Active throughout daylight hours.
This species was formerly considered a subspecies of the Spectacled Spiderhunter, but genetic and morphological differences led to its recognition as a distinct species.
