Found in forests of West and Central Africa, from Guinea to Democratic Republic of Congo. It prefers dense undergrowth in lowland and montane forests.
How to spot
Requires patience due to its secretive nature. Look for flashes of blue on its shoulders. Listen for its rich, whistled song, often delivered from within dense cover.
When to spot
A resident species, observable year-round. Most active in the early morning and late afternoon. More vocal during the breeding season.
