Spotted
The Blue-capped Ifrit is a small, unique insectivorous bird characterized by its striking blue crown, yellowish underparts, and dark upperparts. It is a secretive bird, often found foraging in the dense undergrowth of montane forests. It possesses a remarkable defense mechanism.
Where to spot
Endemic to the montane forests of New Guinea, typically found at mid to high elevations. It prefers dense undergrowth and mossy forests.
How to spot
Due to its secretive nature, spotting it can be challenging. Look for its distinctive blue cap and yellowish underparts as it forages on tree trunks or in dense vegetation. Listening for its soft, often sibilant calls can help locate it.
