The Black Manakin is a small, glossy black Piprid, with males being entirely black and females a duller, dark green. It is a striking forest inhabitant.
Where to spot
Found in humid lowland forests, especially terra firme forests, across a wide range in the Amazon basin, including parts of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Brazil.
How to spot
Search the understory and mid-story of mature forests. Look for the male's glossy black plumage. Listening for their distinctive calls is often the easiest way to locate them.

Active throughout the day, with males most vocal in the mornings. Observable year-round.
