Endemic to humid montane forests in a very restricted area of the Andes in Colombia.

When to spot
Active during daylight hours, particularly in the mornings. Observable year-round in its highly restricted range.
This species is named after Brother Niceforo María, a Colombian naturalist who significantly contributed to ornithological collections.
