The Red-collared Woodpecker is a rare and striking species, recognized by its distinctive red collar and predominantly green plumage. It is a denizen of mature lowland forests.
Where to spot
Endemic to Vietnam, found primarily in mature evergreen forests of the Annamite mountain range.
How to spot
Look for its red collar against its green body; males also have a red crown. Its rarity makes it very difficult to find, so listening for its calls and persistent searching in suitable habitat are crucial.
When to spot
Active during daylight hours. Due to its rarity, any time of year would be considered a good opportunity, but mornings are generally most active.
