The Black-faced Munia, also known as the Moluccan Munia, is a small finch native to Indonesia. It is characterized by its dark, almost black, head and throat, contrasting with a paler body.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Moluccas and other islands of eastern Indonesia, inhabiting grasslands, clearings, and cultivated areas.
How to spot
Look for its dark blackish head and throat. They are typically seen feeding on grass seeds on the ground or on stalks.
When to spot
Can be observed year-round. They are often found in small flocks, foraging on seeds.
Its name 'molucca' refers to the Moluccas, the Indonesian islands where it is commonly found.
