The Black-crested Finch is a small, distinctive finch-like bird. Males have a gray body, white belly, and a prominent black crest on their head. Females are duller.
Where to spot
Arid scrubland, dry woodlands, and chaco forest in Bolivia, Paraguay, and northern Argentina.
How to spot
Look for it foraging on the ground or in low shrubs. The male's black crest is the key identifying feature.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Active during the day.
