Spotted
The Beautiful Treerunner is an aptly named ovenbird with intricate plumage patterns, including fine streaking and rufous highlights. It is a rare and localized resident of high-elevation cloud forests.
Where to spot
High-elevation humid montane forests and cloud forests in isolated areas of the northern Andes, particularly Colombia and Ecuador. Favors moss-laden trees.
How to spot
Its quiet and secretive nature makes it difficult to spot. Look for it creeping up mossy tree trunks or branches. Learning its subtle calls is important for detection.
When to spot
Year-round resident, most active during early morning. Due to its rarity and habitat, any observation is considered fortunate.
As its name suggests, this treerunner has a remarkable ability to climb and maneuver swiftly up tree trunks and branches, using its stiff tail feathers for support.
