Spotted
This hybrid is a cross between a Barnacle Goose and a Nene, both distinct species within the Branta genus. Individuals will exhibit a blend of their parents' plumage characteristics, potentially combining the Nene's neck furrows with the Barnacle's striking black and white face.
Where to spot
Almost exclusively found in captive collections, zoos, or private waterfowl parks where both parent species are housed. Wild encounters are exceptionally improbable.
How to spot
Look for a goose with a body similar to a Barnacle Goose (grey back, white underside) but showing features of a Nene, such as a darker head/neck than a pure Barnacle, or subtle neck furrows. Note any unusual facial patterns.
When to spot
Year-round in captive settings. Any potential wild observation would be entirely opportunistic and highly unusual.

Such hybrids are extremely rare in the wild due to the vast geographical separation of the parent species' native ranges, making any observation highly unusual.
