A common and adaptable ibis native to Australia, famous for its white body, bald black head, and long, decurved black bill. It has increasingly moved into urban environments.
Where to spot
Wetlands, swamps, parks, agricultural areas, and increasingly urban environments (parks, rubbish tips) across Australia, New Guinea, and parts of Indonesia.
How to spot
Easily identified by its predominantly white plumage, bare black head, and long, downcurved bill. Observe them foraging on lawns, in wetlands, or around human habitations.
When to spot
Year-round. Commonly seen during daylight hours, often in large flocks.
