The Amur Falcon is a small, graceful migratory raptor known for undertaking one of the longest migratory journeys of any raptor, flying between East Asia and southern Africa.
Where to spot
Breeds in northeastern Asia (Siberia, Mongolia, northern China) and migrates through India and the Middle East to winter in southern Africa.
How to spot
Look for its small size, long wings, and distinctive plumage: males are dark grey with rufous thighs and vent, females are barred below with an orange eye-ring. Often seen in large flocks, especially at roost sites during migration.
When to spot
Best observed during migration (October-November in Asia/India, November-April in Africa). During breeding season, May-August.
