Where to spot
Widespread across Central and South America, from southern Mexico to northern Argentina, found in a variety of open and semi-open wooded habitats.
How to spot
Look for its grayish throat and subtle crest, often held flat. It perches openly, making short sallies for insects. Its simple, whistled calls are a good way to identify it.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Active throughout the day, often conspicuous on exposed perches in the mornings.
