Spotted
The Plain-tailed Warbler is a small, relatively plain warbler, lacking prominent wing-bars or obvious markings on its tail. Its plumage is generally greenish-grey above and whitish below.
Where to spot
Found in a variety of forest habitats, including coniferous and mixed forests, across parts of northeastern Asia, migrating south for winter.
How to spot
Listen for its distinctive song, which is often the most reliable way to identify this species, as its visual features are quite subtle. Use binoculars to scan the mid-canopy.
When to spot
During the breeding season (spring/summer) in its northern range, and during migration periods (spring/autumn) across its broader distribution.

Despite its 'plain' appearance, this warbler's subtle plumage can be an identification challenge, often requiring careful attention to its vocalizations or structural details.
