The Acre Softtail is a relatively recently described Furnariid, characterized by its brownish plumage and the distinctive soft texture of its tail. It inhabits humid lowland forests.
Where to spot
Known from specific lowland humid forest areas in the southwestern Amazon basin, particularly in the state of Acre, Brazil, and adjacent parts of Peru and Bolivia.
How to spot
Focus on the understory and mid-story of primary lowland rainforests. Patience is needed, as it can be inconspicuous, but knowing its vocalizations is helpful.
When to spot
Active during daylight hours, often within mixed-species flocks. It is a resident species, observable year-round in its restricted range.
This species was only formally described in the 21st century, highlighting the ongoing discovery of new biodiversity, even in well-studied bird families.
