Spotted
The Kai Cicadabird is a species of cuckooshrike found on the Kai Islands. Like other cicadabirds, it is primarily insectivorous and spends its time foraging in the canopy of its forest home.
Where to spot
Endemic to the Kai Islands in Indonesia, inhabiting lowland forests and forest edges. They are typically found in the middle to upper canopy.
How to spot
Scan the tree canopy patiently, looking for small movements. Listen for the characteristic buzzing or trilling calls that help pinpoint its location among the dense foliage.
When to spot
Active throughout the year in its tropical island environment. Early morning and late afternoon are usually the most productive times for observation.
The genus Edolisoma is known for its often subtle sexual dimorphism, where males and females may have slight but distinct plumage differences, or in some cases, be quite similar.
