Spotted
The White-throated Babbler is a small, plain babbler characterized by its whitish throat and general dull plumage. It is a shy and secretive bird of dense undergrowth in lowland forests.
Where to spot
Found in Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo. It inhabits lowland and hill evergreen forests, preferring dense undergrowth, bamboo, and often streamsides.
How to spot
Look for its whitish throat and generally plain brownish plumage. It moves quietly through dense foliage near the ground. Listen for its soft, often repeated calls, which can be hard to pinpoint.
When to spot
Resident year-round. Most active during the early morning and late afternoon. Can be challenging to see due to its skulking nature.
Despite its somewhat nondescript appearance, its subtle movements and foraging habits are typical of its genus, masterfully blending into its habitat.
