Spotted
The Weebill is Australia's smallest bird, a tiny, active songbird found across most of the continent. It is named for its short, stout bill and recognized by its plain yellowish-olive plumage. This highly vocal bird is a common sight in eucalypt woodlands, where it constantly forages among the leaves.
Where to spot
Widespread across almost all of mainland Australia, primarily in eucalypt forests and woodlands, but also in mallee, mulga, and some urban areas with native trees.
How to spot
Listen for its characteristic 'wee-bill' call. Look for tiny, fast-moving birds foraging actively among the leaves of eucalypt trees, often high in the canopy. Its small size and short bill are key identification features.
When to spot
Observable year-round. Highly active during the day, constantly moving through the foliage.

Despite its diminutive size, the Weebill produces a surprisingly loud and distinctive 'wee-bill' or 'chip-chip-chip' call, which gives it its common name.
