A large and relatively robust rhabdornis species, endemic to a limited range in the Philippines. It shares the characteristic tree-creeping foraging style of its genus.
Where to spot
Humid montane forests of Negros and Panay islands in the Philippines, typically at higher elevations.
How to spot
Look for a larger rhabdornis species clinging to or ascending tree trunks and large branches. Its size and location help differentiate it from other rhabdornis species.
When to spot
Year-round resident. Best sought during daylight hours within its restricted habitat.
The Grand Rhabdornis, also known as Rabor's Rhabdornis, is named after the renowned Filipino ornithologist Dioscoro S. Rabor, who made significant contributions to the study of Philippine birds.
