The Sunda Island Thrush (*Turdus javanicus*) is a widespread and variable form of Island Thrush found across the Greater and Lesser Sunda Islands. It is generally a dark thrush with a yellow bill, adapting to diverse montane habitats.
Where to spot
Inhabits montane forests, cloud forests, and high-altitude scrublands throughout the Sunda Islands, including Sumatra, Java, Bali, Lombok, and others.
How to spot
Look for its dark plumage and yellow bill. It often forages on the ground in dense forest, but can also be seen in the mid-story. Listen for its thrush-like calls and song.
When to spot
Resident year-round in its mountain strongholds. Best observed during cooler parts of the day or during the breeding season when pairs are more active.
