Humid montane forests and cloud forests in the Andes and Central American highlands. Found at mid to high elevations, usually in dense undergrowth.

How to spot

Listen for its high-pitched, often trilling calls. Observe it clambering along mossy branches and tree trunks, sometimes hanging upside down, as it actively searches for prey.
