The Tropical Pewee is a small, widespread flycatcher known for its simple, yet distinctive, vocalizations. It is a common resident across a wide range of tropical and subtropical habitats.
Where to spot
Found in a variety of habitats, including open woodlands, forest edges, savannas, and gardens, from Mexico through Central and South America to northern Argentina.
How to spot
Listen for its characteristic call. Look for it perched upright on an exposed branch, often flicking its tail and sallying out for insects.
When to spot
Active during daylight hours, especially in the mornings and late afternoons. It is a resident species in most of its range, observable year-round.
