The Black-cheeked Ant-Tanager is a striking species with a dark mask and pale throat, contrasting with its mostly olive-brown body. It's a resident of humid tropical forests.
Where to spot
Found in humid lowland and foothill forests from central Panama south into northwestern Colombia.
How to spot
Search in the dense understory and mid-story of humid forests. They can be shy and difficult to spot, but listening for their calls and patiently scanning the vegetation will increase chances.
When to spot
A resident species, observable year-round in its range. Mornings are typically most active.
This species is sometimes observed engaging in mutualistic relationships with other bird species, where they forage together and provide additional vigilance against predators.
