Humid montane forests in the Andes of South America, from Venezuela to Bolivia. Look in the understory and mid-story.

Focus on its contrasting slaty-grey cap. Observe its wing-twitching and tail-cocking behavior. Listen for its characteristic, often repeated, soft calls.
When to spot
Year-round, most active in the early morning and late afternoon.
